Physio can be beneficial at the first sign of a problem and can stop a minor niggle developing into a major problem. Osteopathy works with the structure and function of the body and is based on the principle that the wellbeing of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together. This principle demands that the whole body always be considered when treating an athlete and is one of the ways in which osteopathy differs from other therapies. On assessment, using palpation and a functional biomechanical evaluation, the emphasis is on determining whether somatic dysfunction exists. Somatic dysfunction can be defined as soft tissue changes, asymmetry, restricted range of movement and tenderness. If somatic dysfunction exists then our osteopath directs treatment towards the cause of the dysfunction.

Ryan, our Osteopath will be able to offer an assessment and treatment that is tailored not just to aiding the relief the athletes’ immediate symptoms but to also support the optimal healing process of the body and to establish a good balance of flexibility and muscular support so as to offer better resistance to breakdown in the future.

Noticing these habits is the first step to recovery and improving your movement. The session is developed, specifically for you, custom-tailored to your unique circumstances to address your particular habits of moving and holding yourself. Your increasing self-awareness enables you to let go of these habits, to find and choose new patterns of movement; you may find similar development in the flexibility of your thinking and feeling.
